The Henry Hallam appeal, also known as 'Hugs for Henry' was founded to raise funds to support the treatment of Henry Hallam, a 4 year old boy from Plymouth who was diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma just over a year ago. Neuroblastoma is an aggressive form of childhood cancer currently affecting just under 100 children a year in Britain. As a cancer of specialised nerve cells which involve the development of the nervous system and other tissues it can occur anywhere in the body, but in most cases in one of the adrenal glands, in the abdomen. Henry has since soldiered through a year of treatment including several weeks of high dose chemotherapy, radiotherapy, numerous surgeries, over 35 full anaesthetics and immunotherapy. Working with the charity, FAN (Families Against Neuroblastoma), Hugs for Henry is aiming to raise funds for potentially lifesaving relapse treatment which commonly occurs in 60-80% of all cases.
