The Riverside Players is a unique amateur theatre company, formed in 1951 by former students of the Central School of Speech and Drama.
Following a lot of work throughout the previous year, we meet up for just 11 days and make a production. While the actors are fine-tuning rehearsals, other departments are building the set, making costumes, rigging lights and making props. We do a technical, and then dress rehearsal, followed by a run of 4-5 shows including a matinee performance. On the final day, we pack up, say our farewells and return to our normal lives, looking forward to returning again in a year's time.
The whole experience is exhilarating, exhausting and thoroughly enjoyable. The Riverside Players has grown, as a result of members bringing their families along, and people whom we believe would enjoy the experience, and contribute to the company. Often three generations of the same family will participate in a show in a variety of different guises.
