The Teaching Biology Project, part of the Africa Genome Education Institute, is funded by the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund. TBP runs in-service workshops dealing with current issues in the Life Sciences curriculum. Each workshop is limited to fifty teachers and runs for four days in Rondebosch, Cape Town, one each during March, June and September holidays. The aim of the workshops is to empower teachers to be more effective through increasing their ability to use ICT in the classroom and in their lesson preparation, increasing their content knowledge in new aspects of the curriculum e.g. evolutionary biology, and developing scientific methodology and practical skills. We would like teachers to develop their ICT (Information Computer Technology) skills, thus delegates have access to computer laboratories and assistance and are required to put together assessment tasks using ICT.
