The University of the Philippines Guitar Orchestra brings together the artistic excellence of the U.P. College of Music Guitar students. As part of their musical training, the students -- freshmen to sophomores -- are required to play in the orchestra for four years.
The orchestra is an off-shoot of the U.P. Guitar Ensemble founded and directed by Lester Demetillo. In its 11th year, the orchestra's library has grown extensively. From Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and modern pieces, the different styles give each guitarist equal parts of technical difficulty and musical challenge.
The guitar orchestra has performed in and around the U.P. community, the Concert at the Park series, Cultural Center of the Philippines and the PCI Bank concert series.
