Antonio Aguilar, also known as el Charro de Mexico, was born on May 17, 1919 in Villanueva Zacatecas, Mexico, and was baptized with the name of Pascual Antonio Aguilar Barraza. In the early 1940s, he went to the United States to study singing. In 1950 he made his debut on XEW radio, which greatly boosted his career. It was at the beginning of that decade that he began to record his first songs at Discos Musart, a company that was his lifelong record label.
He was a man standing at 6'1 with a dominating career in music. He recorded over 150 albums, which sold 25 million copies, and acted in more than 120 films
Antonio Aguilar is recognized as the artist who opened the doors of the United States and other countries for many, many other Mexicans and Latinos who came after him.
