Dmitry Smirnov is a Russian violinist. He was born into a family of musicians in 1994. He studied with Elena Zaiceva and Pavel Vernikov and is currently a postgraduate student with Rainer Schmidt at the Basel Music Academy.
Smirnov is a laureate of the Oistrakh Violin Competition, the Menuhin Violin Competition and the Tibor Varga Violin Competition. He is an experienced chamber musician, in which capacity he has worked with Heinz Holliger, Stefano Barneschi and Barnabas Kelemen. He has performed under conductors Stanislav Kochanovsky, Vladimir Spivakov and Gilbert Varga and as a soloist with orchestras including the Chamber Orchestra of Lausanne, the Staatsorchester Mainz, the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra and Questa Musica. He has appeared at the Nikkei Hall Tokyo, Konzerthaus Berlin, Mariinsky Concert Hall.
Dmitry currently plays a violin made by Philipp Bonhoeffer in 2018.
