The Handel Aria Competition was established in 2013 to encourage emerging singers to explore the operas and oratorios of G. F. Handel. To be held annually in conjunction with the Madison Early Music Festival in Madison, Wisconsin, the competition was conceived by the Orange and Dean Schroeder and inspired by Mr. Schroeder's passion for Handel's operatic works, which are enjoying a popular revival on the world's music stages after two centuries of neglect. Handel Aria Competition finalists have gone on to have leading roles with major opera companies and orchestras.
