Zen Mountain Monastery is the main house of the Mountains and Rivers Order of Zen Buddhism. It's location in the heart of the Catskill Mountains provides easy access from New York City and other points of origin throughout the Northeast. ZMM was founded in 1980 by John Daido Loori, a student of Taezan Maezumi Roshi at the Zen Center of Los Angeles. Daido Roshi envisioned the Monastery as a place to meld authentic Zen training with the living arts, teasing out several rich traditions of creativity through spiritual inquiry. Our city center moved from Manhattan to its current location in Brooklyn in the year 2000. To find out more about our retreats, public programs and residency opportunities, visit http://zmm.org
