Kumar Shome is a talented Melbourne based guitarist and composer who has played and toured with Sampa the Great, Lamine Sonkos and the African Intelligence, Mulatu Astatke and A.R. Rahman, The Bamboos, Cat Empire, Dub FX, Ajak Kwai, thando and many more.
Trained as a jazz musician he is able to transcend genres, playing and writing music for styles including indie rock, prog rock, psychedelic, funk, north african, indian classical, edm, hip hop, RmB, world
His project Kumar Shome & the Punkawallahs is a guitar band melding instrumental jazz, funk and world. Featuring some of the best talent in the Melbourne music scene, Graeme Pogson (drums), Yuri Pavlinov (bass), Mikey Chan (guitar) and Gillan Gregory (guitar).
His influences include Pat Metheny, Can, Jimi Hendrix, BB King, Led Zeppelin,Meshell Ndegeocello, Osibisa, Irakere
