From my perspective, some of the greatest Linux hurdles to (my) adoption were package installation stability, user experience (including the design) and the greatest of them all, the last one: gaming. The first one (package installation) was solved for me in year 2014 by Linux Mint which had a great installation manager and was impossible to crash. I've even upgraded the OS's major version several times and it still worked! The second one was also partly solved by Linux Mint and partly by apps like Docky or Plank. The last hurdle (gaming) is now practically solved by Steam. It now seems to me that only if the developer of the game doesn't want to support Linux, then it wont work, else it is a good chance the game could work. I am now fully comfortable with the Linux OS.

Disclaimer: I can't guarantee for the game to work on other computers or after a certain time. Things might change, changes to a game or other libraries could be made... I am not responsible for decisions of others.
