On January 8, the Supreme Court of India overturned Gujarat government’s decision to release 11 convicts involved in the gang-rape of Bilkis Bano and murder of seven of her family members during the 2002 Gujarat riots. Now, the convicts will have to return to jail and surrender within two weeks. The top court said that the judgement of May 13, 2022 was obtained by playing fraud on the court, reported ANI. The apex court said that the Gujarat government was not competent to release the men in 2022. SC said Gujarat government should have filed a plea seeking review of the 2022 order stating they are not the competent government. Watch the video to know what the Supreme Court said.
