A German couple stranded on an Indonesian island for three months due to the coronavirus pandemic are finally on their way home.

Christoph Kaufmann, 58, and his partner Silvia Reinartz Kathner, 52, both arrived on Raja Ampat, a collection of islands in Indonesia's far east, on February 18. They were staying at Delvin Homestay on the idyllic resort island of Kri when they became stranded after travel restrictions were put in place by the Indonesian government due to coronavirus. Located off West Papua, Raja Ampat is often described as a dream location for diving.

The two finally arrived in Sorong, West Papua’s largest city, at 5.30pm on May 21 where they were picked up by a local coronavirus task force.

The two will be flown to Jakarta either on Friday or Saturday, Herlin Sasabone of Sorong’s coronavirus task farce says in the video. From there they are expected to fly home to Germany.
