High winds and heavy rain lashed Hong Kong on Sunday, September 16, as Typhoon Mangkhut approached.

Mangkhut, reported to be the biggest storm in the world so far in 2018, was forecast to hit Hong Kong and southern China on Sunday afternoon, after wreaking havoc in the Philippines.

The Hong Kong Observatory issued a number nine tropical storm warning on Sunday morning.

In the Philippines, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said an estimated 5.2 million people were within 77 miles of the projected path of Mangkhut. Credit: marccolee via Storyful
