- Okay pick a card, any card.
Alright got it?
Okay good, is this your card?
No, okay, um is this your card?
Still no, well that's okay I'm sure it'll turn up
because this week we're talking about cards.

Cards are another fun feature that YouTube rolled out
to help replace analytics.
Just like in-screens, they are clickable links that also
work on mobile.
You'll see the card icon appear at the top right of your
video, when a viewer clicks the icon on a computer,
the cards appear at the right of your video.
While on a mobile device they can be displayed to the right
or below the video depending on how you're holding
the phone.
Cards can help drive traffic to other videos, playlists,
channels, and much more.
You can add cards by going to your video manager
and selecting the dropdown next to Edit for the video
you wish to add it to.
Then click on Cards.
From there you can Add Card and select a card you wish
to use.
Currently YouTube offers cards to promote other videos,
playlists, channels, your associated websites,
as well as encourages donations to nonprofits and engage
viewers in polls.
A card is then placed in the timeline below your video
and you can click and drag on it to the exact spot you want
it to appear.
Now that we flushed out what cards are, here's four tips
that will stack them in your favor.
First, use cards sparingly as they can be distracting
or overwhelming to a viewer.
It's best to use them few and far in between.
Second, cards work best if they are related to something
specific you're talking about in the video.
For example, you might be referring to another video
or a channel that you want to direct viewers to,
that's the perfect moment for a card to pop up.
Third, you can use cards to drive traffic to your
associated websites, a merchandise website or a crowdfunding
website, this can be extremely useful if you are trying
to pull viewers to your own website, selling a product,
or crowdfunding a project.
And four, use cards to poll your audience and find out
exactly what they prefer.
You can let fans choose your next topic of your video,
vote on their favorite moments, or just have them answer
a fun question.
Either way, polls allow you to interact and engage
with your fans while also finding out what they like.
Now that you've really aced cards, you're sure to have
boosted viewer engagement, eh?
What?
That's not your card, man what did I do with it?
