ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is set to hold a public gathering in Islamabad’s Parade Ground on Tuesday to mark its 50th foundation day, with its leaders vowing to stage an impressive show of power.
The party is organising its foundation day event in the federal capital for the very first time.
Political pundits say the jalsa will gauge the party’s popularity as well as its fortunes in the upcoming elections in central and northern Punjab.
Workers from across the country are set to attend the event, which will be address by PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari. This would be his first ever public event in the capital city.
PPP Islamabad leader Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar said arrangements had been made for 50,000 people in the Parade Ground.
“We will fill the Parade Ground to its full capacity. It will be the biggest crowd than any other jalsa at the venue,” he said.
The event will commence in the afternoon and then conclude by 7pm.
The party leadership from across the country will attend the occasion. A separate enclosure has been set up for women too.
Leader of Opposition in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah, who visited the venue on Monday evening, said the party would fulfil the dream of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto under the leadership of Bilawal Bhutto.
He said while all of their main rivals were nurtured by dictators, the PPP is the party of masses and has always fought for them.
Speaking on the occasion, PPP Punjab President Qamar Zaman Kaira took a jibe at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan, saying that nation envisioned by Imran is not acceptable to the masses.
“People want a democratic and enlightened Pakistan which is envisaged by the Peoples Party,” Kaira said.
PPP spokesperson Chaudhry Manzoor said his party could solve the pressing issues facing by the country including terrorism and economic challenges.
Following in the footsteps of the PTI, the PPP too has hired the services of DJ Butt for the event.
Meanwhile, the Islamabad Traffic Police announced that the Expressway from Zero Point to Faizabad shall remain closed for general traffic to facilitate the rally.
Similarly, Garden Avenue between I-8 and Pak-China Friendship Centre will also remain closed during the jalsa.
