Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said in an interview with CNBC that the governance structure of OpenAI needs to change, following the sudden firing of CEO Sam Altman last week. Nadella said Microsoft would have "a good dialogue with their board on that." He dismissed concerns of long-term damage at OpenAI and said the critical AI research and partnership with Microsoft continues. Nadella said Microsoft respects OpenAI's nonprofit roots and shares the goal of developing AI safely and addressing unintended consequences from the start. The situation remained fluid with potential outcomes including Altman being reinstated at OpenAI or he and others joining Microsoft. Nadella said OpenAI employees can choose to stay or move to Microsoft.
