한-인니 정상 '특별전략적동반자 관계' 강화하기로
Now, President Moon Jae-in held a bilateral summit today with his Indonesian counterpart President Joko Widodo, who is making a state visit to Seoul.
We now connect to our Blue House correspondent Hwang Hojun who's on the line for the details.
Hojun?
Daniel,
The focus of today's summit between the two presidents was economic cooperation.
President Widodo's three-day visit to South Korea was made in light of this year being the 45th anniversary of Seoul and Jakarta establishing diplomatic ties.
During their summit, President Moon praised the cooperation between their two countries and vowed to increase that cooperation even more.
According to the Blue House press release, the two leaders first evaluated their bilateral cooperation in the infrastructure and industrial sectors, including, but not limited to... hydroelectric power generation, light rail, and petrochemical industries,.... and then agreed to expand it to areas including real estate development, smart transportation systems and information-communication sectors.
President Moon also briefed his Indonesian counterpart on the recent situation on the Korean Peninsula and asked him for Indonesia's continued support and cooperation for denuclearization and the establishment of permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula.
Moreover, Seoul and Jakarta will boost their trade.
Under President Moon's New Southern Policy, which seeks to expand South Korea's diplomatic relations and economic cooperation with ASEAN nations,... Seoul seeks to double its trade with ASEAN countries to 200 billion U.S. dollars by 2020.
Accordingly, the leaders also witnessed the signing of MOUs for the two countries to cooperate with one another in sectors including immigration control, economy, maritime security, and research on industrial innovation.
Throughout the day, President Moon made it obvious that Indonesia is a key partner to South Korea.
Before the two leaders sat down for talks,... South Korea's first couple greeted the Indonesian first couple at Changdeokgung Palace this morning with a special ceremony,... the first time that's been done in modern Korean history.
One of the "Five Grand Palaces" in Seoul,.... and also a registered world heritage site,.... Changdeokgung is known as the palace where the kings of the Joseon Dynasty would discuss state affairs with their officials and would receive foreign envoys.
And just moments from now, President Moon will host a state dinner at the Blue House in honor of the visiting Indonesian President.
Daniel.
