The Iraqi Federal Police said on May 11 that its forces had advanced into the north of Mosul city, days after opening a new front in that area in their fight against Islamic State.

Amid the advances, thousands of people have been fleeing, with more than 20,000 leaving areas to the north of the city in recent days.
