Fighters from the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces advanced towards Islamic State’s de facto capital of Raqqa from eastern, southern and western sides on June 7.

The forces captured Harqalah castle to the west of Raqqa city following fighting against IS militias, Kurdish media said.

An anti-IS monitoring group reported on heavy fighting to the west and north of the city.
